Portrait by Hugh Gilbert

Whether designing a new museum, painting
a nude model or still life, art directing a commercial,
or making a piece of sculpture, the first ideas always
involve a pencil and paper. And imagination. And sometimes,
copy. In other words, words. A pencil can only draw what you
want it to. A Mac is only a clever pencil, admittedly
a very clever pencil, but it is still only a means to an end.
Woody Allen said in Annie Hall,
"At the moment it's just a notion, but with a bit
of backing, I think I could turn it into a concept, and then an idea."
